Back to School

August 2016
Dear Fourth Grader,
Welcome to 4th grade in the Lighthouse!  My name is Mrs. Carney and I look forward to being your 4th grade teacher in the fall!
Let me tell you a little bit about myself.  I live in Colchester, with my husband Brennan, my two boys, Cooper and Boden, and our dog Peyton.  I am a very active person and love to be outside.  I like going to the beach, taking Cooper, Boden, and Peyton for walks, vacationing in Maine, snowboarding, boating on Lake Champlain, spending time with my family, and cheering on my favorite sports teams!
This year in 4th grade we are going to explore many interesting topics.  We’ll study force and motion, plants, regions of the United States, and Vermont history…just to name a few!  We will also be learning all kinds of new math concepts and reading many exciting books.
It’s hard to believe, but the first day of school will be here sooner than we think.  Here are some supplies that would be helpful for the fall.  Keep your eyes open for summer sale flyers! I will provide students with folders, a 3-ring binder, and writing notebook.  Any of the supplies listed below that you are unable to purchase, I will also provide for students.
  • Pencil box or pouch (something small!)
  • Pencils, pencils, and more pencils (A dozen or more would be great! They disappear quickly!)
  • Eraser toppers
  • Box of Kleenex (or more!)
  • 1-2 post-it notes
  • 3-5  glue sticks
  • Headphones (MBS will not be supplying headphones this year)

Students may like to have the following of their own to use, but all will be available in the classroom to share.
  • Crayons, colored pencils, washable markers, scissors
I am looking forward to seeing you again and having a great year together!  If you have any questions please feel free to email me at the following: kari.carney@colchestersd.org.  Also, be sure to check out our blog at: http://blogs.csdvt.org/carneyk/.  Enjoy the rest of your summer!  Get outside, keep reading and practice your multiplication facts!  See you in the fall! Your new teacher,

Mrs. Carney
